Dexter Payne Quintet ft. Elena Camerin Young

"CD Release concert! JAZZ FOR ALL on Dexofon Records. A night of Brazilian instrumental and vocal jazz from traditional and contemporary composers by some of the best interpreters of Brazilian roots in the western US. DPQ is Dexter Payne (clarinet), Dave Willey (accordion), Bill Kopper (7 string guitar), Victor Mestas Perez (piano), Raoul Rossiter (drums & percussion) with the exciting addition of vocalist Elena Camerin Young. Expect to hear choro, forro and other traditional Brazilian forms as well as recent works which blur the lines between genres."

Dexter Payne Quintet blends five distinct quintessential elements. These friends, far from a convenient or accidental jazz date, are more like a secret alchemical convocation nurtured over the last 10 years. The music is animated, driving, breath-taking and humorous. Virtuosity and joie de vie combine with collective subtlety and telepathic familiarity to make every uplifting performance a surprise. The Quintet plays Brazilian choro jazz, a tradition with roots in the 19th century, which inspired and influenced the birth of samba and bossa nova. Still very much alive in Brasil today, choro has a creative and evolving northern outpost in DPQ.
